JONES COUNTY, Ga. — On Sunday, Deputy John Kile was shot in the chest while conducting a traffic stop. Luckily, Kile was wearing his ballistic vest – which saved his life, said Sheriff R.N. Reece.
Now, new videos show the exact moment Kile dodged death. The sheriff’s office shared dashcam and bodycam videos of the disturbing incident to Facebook on Tuesday. The videos show Kile speaking with a driver on the side of the road.
Kile tells the driver that he pulled him over for going well below the speed limit and swerving all over the road. Kile then asks the driver multiple times to step out of the vehicle, but the driver refuses.
After several minutes of conversation, the driver pulls out a gun and shoots Kile. Dashcam video shows the deputy is knocked back, clutching his chest as he stumbles to his squad car. The suspect speeds off and Kile gets back in his cruiser to continue the pursuit, despite just having been shot.
“Dammit! Ugh,” Kile is heard yelling as he calls for back up.
Dashcam video from Deputy William Jackson shows the PIT maneuver and arrest that ended the incident. Kile was treated at a hospital and later released, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
