NEW YORK — There was no horsing around when Bear got in trouble Friday in the Bronx.

NYPD Special Operations officers were called when Bear, a horse, got stuck with a rider in the mud along Orchard Beach.

According to cops, Bear got stuck in some mud near Shore Road along the beach shortly after 1 p.m.

Police said Bear and the rider were trotting along a trail near the beach when he got spooked and veered off onto a different trail.

He wound up in about three feet of mud because it was low tide. He then fell over.

The rider was able to get off the horse and call 911, but 15-year-old Bear had trouble finding his footing.

Wild horses couldn’t keep away first responders and volunteers who got Bear upright again.

“We assessed the horse and determined the horse was still viable,” said Barry Gelbman, commanding officer of the NYPD Mounted Unit, who used his horse sense to help Bear out.

“We started a rescue. We used our rescue glide to get underneath the horse and ensuing that all the first responders that were here could safely get this horse up onto the glide with our rescue equipment. “

When they got the horse standing again, they led him to a trailer and took him to a nearby stable, where a veterinarian was scheduled to examine him.

At one point, the light gray and black horse at abruptly kicked its feet to sit up, causing a few responders to jump back.

Then the horse chomped on some foliage in the park, completely unbothered by all the excitement, and eating like a horse.
