P1 First Person: 2010 memorial prayer

Editor’s Note: In PoliceOne “First Person” essays, our Members and Columnists candidly share their own unique view of the world. This is a platform from which individual officers can share their own personal insights on issues confronting cops today, as well as opinions, observations, and advice on living life behind the thin blue line. This week’s essay, in recognition of National Police Week, comes from PoliceOne Member Stephen M. Carroll of the Brownsburg Police Department, who offers a wonderful Memorial Prayer. Today, we come together
To think of those before us
And pay respect to those brave souls
We say our prayers in chorus

We must not let their glory fade
We must keep their names held high
For they have already fought our fight
Long before you and I...

They’ve already walked the walk and talked the talk
The things that we do now
At times they wondered why they did
Sometimes they wondered how

Yet they heard God’s call and took their runs
On earth and heaven too
And now their job is to look over us
To care for me and you

Let us not forget their names
Today and all year long
They took a stand for things that’s right
Like us, fought against things wrong
