LOCKPORT, Ill. — Two Illinois State Police troopers and a Department of Corrections employee were injured Thursday morning in a police-involved shooting at the Stateville Correctional Center officer dormitory in southwest suburban Lockport.

An ISP Joliet District sergeant and trooper responded to the prison’s officer dormitory about 4 a.m. after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance, according to a release from ISP.

The troopers spoke to a female complainant about the situation and confronted the suspect -- a male IDOC employee -- who allegedly became argumentative.

The suspect then attacked the sergeant, striking him and pushing him against the wall. The suspect then attacked the trooper, striking her in the face several times, the release said. The sergeant was allegedly trying to stop the attack on the trooper when the suspect tried to disarm the sergeant and grab his weapon, the release said.

The sergeant drew his weapon and shot the suspect in the torso twice, the release said.

The trooper, sergeant and suspect were all taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet. The sergeant suffered head and neck injuries, and the female trooper suffered a broken nose and lacerations to her face.

Both have been treated and released, ISP Trooper Mark Dorencz said Thursday night.

The suspect remains in critical condition, as of 5 p.m. Thursday, ISP Master Sgt. Luis Gutierrez said.

The ISP Division of Internal Investigations is investigating the shooting.
