CHICO, Calif. — A motorcyclist who reportedly hit speeds of up to 100 mph on The Esplanade Wednesday night as he fled from police proved you can run from the law, but you can’t hide.

Chico resident Tory Pryor, 21, was arrested by police after he allegedly ditched the motorcycle, described as a high-performance dirt bike, in the backyard of an abandoned house on East Seventh Avenue, and tried to escape on foot.

He was booked into the Butte County Jail in Oroville on suspicion of driving under the influence, evading officers and reckless driving. Bail was set at $64,500.

A police sergeant spotted Pryor about 8 p.m. popping wheelies on the motorcycle near the corner of First and Main streets.

He tried to pull him over on First Street, but Pryor reportedly fled at high speed, running a red light at First and The Esplanade and continuing on at up to 100 mph.

Police called off the pursuit for public safety reasons, but another officer quickly spotted the rider eastbound on Sixth Avenue.

Near Sixth and Palm avenues Pryor reportedly abandoned the bike. He was spotted walking on Mangrove and taken into custody.

Police said they found keys to the motorcycle in his pocket, and a helmet matching the one he was wearing was found with the bike.
