CHULA VISTA, Calif. — “It’s a story.”
That’s what Chief Roxana Kennedy told KUSI about the Chula Vista Police Department’s officer recruitment video production, which was selected as one of the top 10 of the year by Police1.
A clip from the video shows “actors,” who Kennedy said are all Chula Vista officers and employees, responding to what appears to be a SWAT situation. The clip also shows officers providing comfort and aid to the “victim” in the story.
“This is the difference we made today. What difference will you make tomorrow?” text on the screen reads.
“Wow, that’s some powerful filmmaking,” KUSI Anchor Paul Rudy says after viewing the clip. “It almost looks like a trailer for a high-end movie.”
Kennedy encourages viewers to watch the video and to vote for it via the department’s social media channels.
“Your vote will not only honor the hard work of our officers but also inspire future generations to join our ranks and continue our mission!” Kennedy posted on LinkedIn.

The Wausau, Wisconsin Police Department also earned a shoutout from its local news.
“The Wausau Police Department’s recruitment video has been named one of the top 10 police agency recruitment videos by Police1 for 2024. The announcement recognizes the department’s video as one of the best in a nationwide competition,” WSAW stated in their report about the recruitment video.
The department also encouraged community members to vote for its video.
“This week Police1 announced their Top 10 list of the best police recruitment videos in the nation for 2024, and Wausau PD made the list. The list features agencies from coast to coast….So please, take just a few seconds and vote for Wausau PD in this year’s competition,” a department Facebook post reads.
The department’s video includes several interviews with officers, explaining the reasons they chose to join.
“When I come in to work, it’s not work,” one officer says. “When I come in to the police department every morning and put this uniform on, it’s like I’m just suiting up with family members and we’re just out patrolling the city.”
