Video: Man steals ambulance, leads police on pursuit

The man stole the vehicle after reportedly jumping out of a motel window that was 10 feet off the ground

SEATTLE — Seattle police have arrested a 23-year-old man after he led officers on a chase in a the Sand Point neighborhood Saturday, driving a stolen ambulance with lights and sirens running.

Around 11:30 p.m., police and fire were called to a downtown hotel after the man reportedly jumped through a window that was 10 feet off the ground, police said.

The man then reportedly stole the fire department’s aid vehicle and fled to North Seattle, according to police.

Police followed the vehicle as it headed through the Sand Point neighborhood, police said.

When officers attempted to “box in” the driver in the 7700 block of Sand Point Way, the man turned the vehicle around and headed toward officers, police said. He struck the front of a police patrol car and continued driving, police said.

The man surrendered in the 5000 block of Northeast 65th Street.

Medics treated him for injuries from the jump and police booked him into King County Jail for investigation of auto theft.

No other details were immediately available.
