NEW YORK — New York law enforcement leaders who were trapped in Israel when the Hamas terror attacks struck Saturday have been safely evacuated, the New York Post reported.

NYPD leaders were a part of a metro-area delegation attending a counterterrorism and antisemitism training near the Gaza strip, according to the report. They arrived on Thursday and were close to the attacks when they occurred.

“I am in communication with our deputy chief who informed me that though the delegation is close to the Gaza Strip they are sheltering in a safe location and every effort is underway for their safe return to New York,” District Attorney Miriam Rocah said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Saturday night.

Rocah posted on Monday that members of the delegation had returned to New York safely.

“We are very thankful to everyone, especially those in Israel, who ensured the safe return of every one of our law enforcement colleagues,” she said in the post.

The NYPD has added security measures to New York synagogues and the Israeli Consulate, according to the report.
