MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — An officer who was proactively patrolling the streets is being credited for her attention to detail during a traffic stop that led to an arrest of a wanted man.
Officer Wallace was patrolling around 5:30 a.m. on May 28 when she saw a Jeep disregard a red light at an intersection, North Myrtle Beach Police said.
Wallace conducted a traffic stop and noticed a female driver and male passenger as she approached the Jeep. While she spoke with the occupants of the vehicle, she noticed the driver appeared distressed.
While the male passenger wasn’t looking at the driver, the female silently mouthed “help me” repeatedly.
Wallace observed the driver’s message and had the passenger get out of the vehicle, placing him in the back seat of her patrol car.
While the man was in custody, Wallace went back to the Jeep and spoke to the female driver who frantically told the officer that the passenger had just shot someone.
Moments later, a BOLO was sent over the radio from dispatch stating the vehicle she pulled over was involved in a shooting.
Because Officer Wallace was proactively patrolling the streets, even in the last 30 minutes of her shift, a suspect in a shooting was arrested, police said.
During a search of the vehicle, an unlawfully carried pistol was recovered underneath the suspect’s seat.
“Our department and our community are lucky to have Officer Wallace. Great job!” police said in a Facebook post.
