WEST COVINA, Calif. — A California Highway Patrol officer was in stable condition Friday morning after he was shot during a traffic stop, KTLA reported.
The incident occurred at 1:40 a.m. when officers pulled over a silver Cadillac Escalade SUV and the 30-year-old suspect began firing at them, CHP spokesperson Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said. Officers returned fire and the SUV fled the scene. One officer, struck by gunfire, was sent to a hospital.
The SUV was located by another law enforcement agency and engaged authorities in a pursuit.
Video shows the suspect injured by gunfire before being taken into custody.
The incident is under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
