HACKENSACK, N.J. — A New Jersey officer smashed the window of a hot minivan to rescue a child who was sweating profusely.

Bergen County sheriff’s Officer Rich Carrion was alerted by a Costco employee in Hackensack around 4 p.m. Thursday and he found the girl crying in a car seat. The air temperature at the time was in the 80s.

The girl was taken to a hospital for evaluation and released to her father.

The child’s mother is charged with child endangerment.
