Sacaton, Ariz. (AP) -- One suspect was killed and another wounded after a gunbattle with police on the Gila River Indian Reservation early Monday.
Gila River police Sgt. Stephanie Nelson said officers began pursuing a car following a carjacking around 1:30 a.m. During the pursuit, Nelson said the suspects fired at officers, hitting the windshield on a patrol car.
The officers returned fire and the car crashed.
Even after the crash, the suspects continued to fire at the officers, Nelson said.
One suspect was killed; the other was hospitalized with minor injuries.
One officer was slightly injured by flying glass, she said.
In a separate police shooting in Mesa, also on Monday morning, a man was hospitalized after being shot by police. He was shot after a verbal and physical confrontation with officers, police said. His injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
