Grand Island, Neb. (AP) -- A Grand Island man has been sentenced to jail and probation for a crash that killed a Bennington reserve police officer.

Christopher Bigger, 21, was sentenced Thursday in Hall County Court to 90 days in jail, two years probation and 100 hours of community service. He was also ordered not to drive for six months.

Bigger had pleaded no contest to misdemeanor motor vehicle homicide for the Feb. 10, 2002 accident that killed 22-year-old Eric Ottis of Fremont.

Bigger had been accused of driving in an unsafe manner and causing the crash.

Ottis worked for the Bennington Police Department and had been attending the Nebraska Law Enforcement Training Center in Grand Island, near where he was killed.
