Rookie NYPD Officer Keeps Cool, Arrests Two

By CHRISTOPHER OLIVER, The New York Sun

Police officials are praising a rookie cop, Angelo Andrane, for making his first attempted robbery arrest only two weeks out of the academy.

Office Andrane had just finished his tour at the 23rd Precinct early Thursday when two males accosted him on the southbound platform of the 103rd Street stop on the B line.

The officer calmly identified himself and drew his service weapon. He was able to capture one of the unidentified suspects. A backup team caught the second suspect minutes later.

“He did the right thing,” said Officer Gerard Cole, a police spokesman. “He drew his gun. There were no shots, and he made his collar.”

The two suspects were charged with attempted robbery and menacing.
