TIJUANA, Mexico- Police in this border city have arrested a woman sought in the 1999 killing of a taxi driver in Los Angeles.
Crystal “Goofy” Vigil was detained Monday outside a hotel in Tijuana’s red light district after six years on the run, police said.
Vigil, an alleged member of the “Easyrider” gang based in East Los Angeles, was wanted for the attempted murder of a motorist and the fatal shooting of Gerardo Jimenez, a taxi driver killed in the Hollywood area of Los Angeles.
U.S. authorities say Vigil and fellow gang members Adrianna “Scrappy” Uribe and Mabelin “Teardrop” Torres went on a crime spree on June 19, 1999, shooting at a man and carjacking his car. Officials say they then chased Jimenez until he crashed, then they stole his wallet and shot him to death.
Uribe and Torres were already under arrest.
The case was featured on “America’s Most Wanted,” a television crime-fighting show that described Vigil as unpredictable and erratic.
Vigil was turned over to Mexican immigration officials to be deported to the United States, police said.
