MONROE COUNTY, Pa. — When his car ran out of gas during an alleged drug deal with a Monroe County detective Wednesday afternoon, that should have been a sign to turn back and rethink the decision.
Instead, Shawn M. Chavies, 40, of East Stroudsburg got two men to help him push his car to the gas station in Stroudsburg where police arrested him, according to court records.
Chavies was in a hurry to sell his stash of Percocet pills because he is scheduled to be sentenced Friday in Pike County for a 2012 drug case, authorities said. According to court records, Chavies told a Monroe County detective, “They’re selling like hot cakes, yo. If you want some you better hurry up.”

The detective arranged the drug transaction to occur at a CVS in East Stroudsburg. Police set up in the area, but after Chavies was late to the scheduled meeting, the detective called him back.
“I had to make a delivery in Stroudsburg and ran out of gas,” Chavies responded. “Hold on, I’ll be there.”
Chavies told the detective he would be pushing his car to the Sunoco on Park Avenue in Stroudsburg. Police arrested him there and found 10 pills on him.
He was charged with possession with intent to deliver, criminal use of a communication facility, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned by District Judge Kristina Anzini and sent to Monroe County Prison under $25,000 bail.
