MANHEIM TWP, Pa. — When a Manheim Township man answered his door late Tuesday evening, he found a random man on the porch asking for food.
According to police, Miles Patrick Riehl, 26, of Havertown, arrived around 9:21 p.m. and told the resident he needed food or he would hurt him. When he refused, police said, Riehl pushed open the door and pushed past the man.
The man and a second resident of the home ran outside, and Riehl locked them out of their house, police said. He then began to cook frozen spaghetti and clams in the microwave.
Officers arrived at the home and found Riehl taking a shower, police said. While they tried to take him into custody, he resisted officers, who wrestled him to the ground. Eventually, Riehl was taken into custody, police said.
Manheim Township Police Chief Tom Rudzinski said the residence was chosen at random.
“But that doesn’t make it any less frightening,” Rudzinski said. “As hard as it must have been to flee their residence, they did the right thing by getting out quickly and calling 9-1-1. Their actions led to a quick response and apprehension without anybody being injured.”
