DRAPER, Va. — Police in western Virginia are searching for a man suspected of shooting a neighbor to death and wounding another neighbor and a sheriff’s deputy.
A woman was hurt when she jumped from the second floor of a house to escape a fire apparently connected to the shootings Tuesday morning.
Virginia State Police Sgt. Michael Conroy says police are searching two counties for Douglas Albert Jaccard. Court records show the 58-year-old was scheduled to enter a plea Wednesday to two counts of taking indecent liberties with a minor, abduction and possession of explosives by a convicted felon.
Conroy says the sheriff’s deputy was protected by a bulletproof vest and a hospital says he’s in stable condition.
Five schools in the area are locked down but officials say students are safe.
