MONROE COUNTY, Ga. — A Monroe County deputy shot in the head Saturday was pronounced brain dead just before 11:30 a.m. Sunday.

Michael Norris was still on life support Sunday afternoon pending possible organ donation, said county coroner Joey Proctor.

Norris and deputy Jeff Wilson went to 111 Haley Lane in Bolingbroke at about 5:45 p.m. Saturday after being called and told a man there was attempting suicide.

They exchanged gunfire with the man. Norris was shot in the head. Wilson, who also was shot, was able to handcuff the suspect.

The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the man who exchanged fire with the deputies.

Wilson was listed in stable condition at a local hospital Sunday, according to a source familiar with the case.

District Attorney Richard Milam identified the shooter as Christopher Calmer. Calmer was treated and released from a local hospital, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

A phone call to the residence, located at the end of Haley Lane in a cul-de-sac, wasn’t answered Sunday afternoon.
