HOMETOWN, Ill. — An Illinois police department is mourning after one of its officers was killed in the line of duty Saturday. 

Lt. James Kouski, 58, was fatally struck by a vehicle while investigating a DUI crash, according to the Chicago Sun-Times

The driver who hit Kouski was taken into custody, said Hometown Police Chief Louis Dominguez. The incident remains under investigation. 

Kouski was a 34-year veteran of the department, according to the Sun-Times.
