TAMPA, Fla. — Sheriff Chris Nocco released body camera footage after onlookers accused a deputy of excessive force during a shoplifting arrest, WPTV reported.

The Feb. 26 incident occurred as the suspect, Tiffany Tebo, attempted to leave a store without paying for shoes.

Witnesses sent the department clips of their perspective and posted them online claiming the deputy used excessive force.

Upon review, Nocco determined the deputy was justified in his actions.

“That citizen tried to put that out here and say it’s police brutality, but when you see the entire video, which we have because of body worn camera, it protects our agency and it protects the deputy,” Sheriff Nocco told the news site.

When Tebo resists arrest and lunges towards the deputy, both crash into a pillar where the sheriff believes the injury occurred. The sheriff stands behind the deputy and said he did everything he was trained to do.

Tebo was charged with theft petit retail, resisting an officer and obstructing without violence.
