PHILADELPHIA — A police officer who was shot seven times as he was conducting a drug investigation is set to be released from a Philadelphia hospital.
Folcroft police say Officer Christopher Dorman likely will be released Monday.
The 25-year-old officer was shot Friday as he approached people suspected of smoking marijuana behind an apartment building. The shooting prompted a three-hour manhunt.
The suspect, Donte Island, has been charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault.
On Sunday, country singer Kenny Chesney called Dorman to apologize for announcing at a concert that the injured officer had died. Folcroft police tweeted that Chesney “wants to take him to a football game and get some beers.” Dorman was supposed to attend Chesney’s concert on Saturday in Philadelphia, but was wounded in the shooting.
