HOUSTON — Houston police were forced to jump out of the way after a man attempted to run them over as they were directing traffic Sunday.

According to KPRC 2, police were directing traffic in a cone zone on the highway when the incident occurred.

Three officers witnessed the suspect, Jason Cookie Evans, make eye contact with them before flipping them off and speeding toward them.

One female officer was struck by the vehicle – knocking her to the ground.

The other two officers were able to dive out of the way.

Police pursued Evans, who eventually stopped his vehicle and jumped out of the car in a fighting stance.

According to KHOU, the driver was highly intoxicated.

“The guy was acting completely crazy, it was obvious he hates the police,” Captain Wally Wieghat told KPRC 2.

Evans was taken into custody and was charged with aggravated assault on a police officer with a motor vehicle.

The injured officer was transported to the hospital with hip, shoulder and foot injuries. She is expected to recover.
