OKLAHOMA CITY — An officer was shot and another was wounded in a deadly confrontation during a traffic stop late Monday.
According to the Oklahoman, Sgt. Jason Burgess stopped 24-year-old Renarbrey Jones and two passengers, 32-year-old Roger Gurley and 24-year-old Lincoln Price, and discovered Jones and Gurley had outstanding warrants.
While handcuffing Jones, Price exited the vehicle and opened fire on Burgess.
Burgess was shot in the leg and officers returned fire, killing Price.
Sgt. Jonathan Davis, a backup officer who arrived at the scene, suffered a hand and finger injury during the incident and was treated at the scene. It is unclear what caused it.
Burgess was transported to a hospital where he was treated and released.
Gurley and Jones were both taken into custody, KFOR reported.
Price’s criminal history included a cocaine possession charge in February and a 2010 charge of aggravated attempt to elude police. Price received a five-year deferred sentence in the eluding case, according to the report.
