BALTIMORE — Baltimore police have released surveillance video capturing the shooting of a man who charged at an officer Sunday.
According to the Baltimore Sun, police initiated a traffic stop of 35-year-old Jeffery Blair Jr., who immediately exited his vehicle and rushed toward an officer after pulling over.
The officer engaged in a ‘tactical retreat’ and opened fire – striking the Blair in the stomach, chest and hand.
Another officer deployed a TASER as police moved in to arrest the man.
“This individual was clearly going through some kind of crisis,” Police Deputy Commissioner Jerry Rodriguez told the Sun. Rodriguez went on to call the actions of the suspect “very unusual” and “very menacing and threatening.”
The suspect is currently in critical condition at a hospital and will face charges, which have yet to be announced.
The officer is on paid administrative leave, per policy, as police investigate the shooting.
