SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — Shocking video shows the moment a Dorchester County deputy narrowly avoided death when a suspect’s vehicle rolled over him and nearly knocked a telephone pole on top of him, The Post and Courier reports.

Deputies, including Sgt. Lawrence Hill, were attempting to apprehend a speeding driver, identified as Robert Quentin Hill. The two are not related, the report states.

The driver led deputies on a pursuit through the county at speeds that reached 100 mph.

Sgt. Hill can be seen from another deputy’s dash cam video deploying a spike strip before ducking behind an electric pole. The driver then appeared to aim for Sgt. Hill, veering off the road and knocking down the power pole after slamming into it.

The car toppled and fell over top of Sgt. Hill, who was narrowly able to avoid getting pinned beneath it. He was then almost hit by the falling telephone pole but was able to escape injury. Live wires can be seen sparking in the video.

Sgt. Hill was taken to the hospital and was released with a shoulder injury and bruises.

Robert Quentin Hill was arrested on multiple charges, including attempted murder, and is being held without bail.
