STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. — Amid tense Saturday protests at Stone Mountain – as two opposing groups clashed, sometimes violently – a tender moment between a little boy and a police officer was captured on video.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution identified the boy as 6-year-old James Armour, who is seen approaching a line of officers holding shields.
In the video, Jazmine Williams, the boy’s mother, shouts for him to get away. But James doesn’t listen. He continues to walk towards the officers, appearing bashful.
“Hi,” James says, waving at the line of cops.
“What’s up bud?” one of the officers says to James.
“What made you want to say ‘hi’ to the police?” asks the man who is recording the video.
“It’s a secret,” James responds, but then acknowledges it’s because he wants to be a police officer when he grows up.
An officer then peeks around his shield and extends his hand for a fist bump. James runs to him for the quick fist bump and then skips back to his mom.
