PALM BAY, Fla. — An autistic boy who left his home and fell into a canal was saved by local officers Sunday.
Chase, 3, slipped through a gate at his home that is usually locked, WFTV reported.
“My daughter came in yelling, ‘Mom, the gate, the gate. Chase.’ So I flew out the door,” Chase’s mom Rachel Freddette told the news station.
After police searched the area, they rescued Chase from the canal and brought him back to his mother.
“We had a department-wide training come out through our training department, making us aware of the dangers of dealing with children and people with autism. One of those issues is that they are very prone to finding water or bodies of water,” rescuing Officer Greg Moore said. “I chalk it up to I happened to be at the right place at the right time. Doing my job.”
Chase was uninjured and is back at home with his family.
