Dash cam: Man steals marked cruiser, leads Ohio officers on 16-minute pursuit before arrest

Chillicothe Police Department officers deployed stop sticks to stop the suspect, who was taking the Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser for a joyride

ROSS COUNTY, Ohio — Authorities arrested a man earlier this week after he allegedly stole a marked Ohio State Highway Patrol cruiser and led officers on a 16-minute pursuit, WBNS reported.

The incident began just before 2:15 a.m. Tuesday when a marked Dodge Charger patrol car was stolen while left running outside the Chillicothe Patrol Post, according to OSHP. Using GPS technology, troopers tracked the vehicle heading south on state Route 772.

When troopers attempted to initiate a traffic stop, the suspect refused to comply and continued driving, according to the report. The pursuit proceeded south on Route 772 before the suspect turned around at a gas station and headed north toward Chillicothe.

Video shows officers from the Chillicothe Police Department deploying stop sticks, successfully bringing the pursuit to an end. Dash camera footage showed troopers ordering the suspect out of the vehicle at gunpoint. He crawled out of the driver’s side window and surrendered without further incident.

No injuries were reported, and the stolen patrol car sustained no damage, OSHP confirmed.

The suspect was taken into custody and is being held in the Ross County Jail, according to the report. He faces multiple charges, including three counts of theft without consent, failure to comply with a police officer’s order and possession of drug abuse instruments.
