COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Columbus police officer was taken into surgery for a broken leg Wednesday after he was struck by a cruiser while chasing a robbery suspect.

The officer, who police wouldn’t identify Wednesday night, was helping search for a man accused of robbing three pedestrians near Broad Street and Monroe Avenue on the East Side, police said.

When the officer, who was on foot, rounded a corner, he was struck by a cruiser.

The officer was taken to Grant Medical Center.

Roshawn L. Stone, 32, of 940 E. North Broadway, was arrested a few blocks away on Parsons Avenue.

Stone was expected to appear in Franklin County Municipal Court today.

Police said the officer was in stable condition early this morning.
