HANOVER, Pa. — A Hanover man is in York County prison today after biting a police officer on the arm, police said.

Steven Daniel Ross, 27, is being held on $50,000 bail on aggravated assault on a police officer, escape and resisting arrest charges.

Police spotted Ross walking along Route 116, near Route 516 in Spring Grove at 1:45 a.m. Wednesday, police said. Police determined Ross had an active arrest warrant in Baltimore County after Ross requested a ride, police said.

When he was advised he was under arrest, Ross ran into the woods, where he was caught several hundred yards later. During the arrest, he fought with officers and bit Southwestern Regional Police officer Bryn Lindemuth on the hand, police said.

Ross was subdued with pepper spray and several police officers.

Lindemuth and Ross were treated at York Hospital.
