CONTRA COSTA TIMES
A stolen car pursuit from Martinez resulted in a three-car head-on crash on west bound Highway 4 near between Railroad Avenue and Bailey Road this afternoon, authorities said.
At about 2:20 p.m. Martinez police began pursuing a 1994 black Mustang that was stolen when the owner left the keys in the ignition.
Police chased the car at speeds in excess of 90-mph east on Hwy. 4 at which point Sheriffs Office deputies and Highway Patrol officers picked up the pursuit.
During the chase the Mustang began driving the wrong way in westbound lanes of Hwy. 4, smashing head on into two other cars, said Contra Costa Fire District Battalion Chief Dave George.
Paramedics were transporting at least three people with injuries to nearby hospitals, said George.
The driver of the Mustang was also taken into custody, and was being treated for injuries.
