PARK CITY, Utah — Sundance Film Festival debuted a new virtual reality film that allows users to be on all sides of a police shooting, Wired reported.
This is the second “experience” film by the director Rose Troche and her partner, Morris May. Their first film was made to simulate two sides of a sexual assault.
The ‘Perspective 2: The Misdemeanor’ is intended to let people experience an even-handed representation of each person involved in a police shooting. The storyline involves a fictional police shooting with a teenager, his brother and two officers.

The viewers’ perception of what happened in the incident changes each time a different angle of the shooting is shown.
“Everybody has made a mistake in this whole thing, and it escalates so quickly,” Troche told the news site. “But it’s really for you to experience, to try to feel what it’s like to have that fear, to feel like ‘Oh my god, what did I just do? I just shot someone.’”
The self-financed film has no plans for wide distribution but the directors would like it to be seen by as many people as possible to help provide insight into an issue most of the public has made up their minds about.
“The piece demonstrates the fact that just because you’re there, doesn’t mean you see everything,” Troche said.
