BOSTON — A second suspect was arrested last night for the botched jewelry store heist that led to last week’s shooting of a Woburn police officer, authorities said.
Hector Baez, 21, of Boston was arrested last night in South Boston, according to officials from Middlesex District Attorney Gerard Leone’s office. Baez is expected to be arraigned today in Woburn District Court for armed robbery and armed assault with intent to murder.
In a statement last night, Leone said investigators used forensic evidence left by Baez at the scene to link him to the robbery and police shooting.
Officer Robert DeNapoli was shot several times in the arms and legs, but survived and was released late last week from Lahey Clinic.
A suspect arrested at the scene of the crime, Antonio Matos, 25, of Roxbury, remains hospitalized, charged with armed robbery, assault with intent to murder and gun violations related to the Sept. 6 shootout.
