DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- A third escapee from a privately owned jail in Missouri was caught here Friday, with one of the four still at large.
William M. Jones, 23, was arrested in southeast Des Moines with the help of probation and parole officers and the U.S. Marshals Service, said Bill Vaughn, chief deputy with the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Jones had been held earlier on charges of theft, eluding police and resisting arrest.
Still at large was Justin J. Rejba, 21, who had been held earlier on theft charge and a probation violation.
The other two prisoners, Craig Lee Miles, 19, and William B. Telleen, 28, were arrested Thursday after a van they were driving crashed into a median in a residential area about 10:30 a.m.
Miles, who was being held on drug and theft charges and a probation violation, was caught as he fled from the crash. Telleen, who was being held on drug charges and a probation violation, was arrested a few hours later.
Vaughn said all four prisoners will be charged with felony escape.
Polk County has nearly 140 prisoners housed at the jail in Pattonsburg, Mo., to alleviate overcrowding, he said.
Vaughn said the typical daily count in the Polk County Jail, designed to hold just over 500 inmates, is about 800.
