Deputies Injured When Car Flips

San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News

Two Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputies were slightly injured when their patrol car flipped early this morning while responding to reports of a disturbance in a South San Jose area park.

A Sheriff’s Department spokesman said the deputies were en route to Groesbeck Hill Park when a vehicle ran a stop sign at Klein Road and Norwood Avenue and collided with the deputies’ car, causing it to flip over.

Both deputies were taken to an area hospital where they were treated for minor injuries and released, according to the sheriff’s spokesman. The deputies were responding to a 12:26 a.m. report of a group of juveniles chasing each other with bats.

The 17-year-old driver of the Toyota Corolla that slammed into the deputies’ car reportedly had a blood alcohol level over the legal limit. He faces felony drunken driving charges. He remains hospitalized.

Authorities are investigating the incident.
