(SAN DIEGO, Calif.) -- A 33-year old inmate of the County Jail died Wednesday during a struggle with a guard, and an autopsy will be done to determine the cause of death, authorities said.
The San Diego Union reported that the prisoner, whose identity has not yet been released, had been arrested Dec. 30 on a charge of suspicion of domestic violence.
Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Doug Shinebarger told the newspaper that the inmate became “hostile” when jail deputies tried to take him to a court appearance at noon. During a struggle, the prisoner died.
Shinebarger said that the inmate had been housed in the psychiatric security unit of the jail because of unpredictable and violent behavior.
