NEWTON, Ma. - A 23-year-old Waltham man was arrested when his girlfriend and police lured him to the Bertucci’s parking lot minutes after he dragged the woman from her home and assaulted her in her driveway, police said.
Axel J. Garcia, of 703 Moody St., went to the woman’s Nonantum Place home about 10:30 p.m. Saturday. When the woman, whom police did not identify, answered the door, Garcia dragged her to the driveway, Sgt. Ken Dangelo said.
Garcia tried to force the woman into his car, but she got away and ran into the house.
Dangelo said Garcia, who snatched the woman’s cell phone, got in his car and rammed her roommate’s car.
Garcia, who was charged with attempted kidnapping, assault and battery and larceny from a person, took off before officers arrived. He repeatedly called his girlfriend with her cell phone, Dangelo said.
He said the woman, working with police, told Garcia to meet her at Bertucci’s so they could talk. He was arrested when he arrived.
The woman had bruises on her arms, but did not require medical attention, Dangelo said.
