Detroit (AP) -- An off-duty city police officer fatally shot a man on Friday morning who authorities say pointed a shotgun at the officer after firing several blasts from the shotgun into a home.
Sgt. Ramona Bennett said the officer heard gunfire in his southwest Detroit neighborhood and went to investigate. He ordered the man with the shotgun to drop his weapon, Bennett said, and fired when the shotgun was raised at him.
The man later died from a single gunshot wound, Bennett said. The names of the man who was killed and the officer weren’t immediately released as the police investigation into the shooting continued.
