Two murder suspects escaped from the Clayton County Jail overnight, scaling a fence and jumping into a waiting car. Both inmates are “local to the Atlanta area” and were being held in separate murder cases. They are considered dangerous.

“They were picked up and driven away by an individual driving a small, gray or silver compact automobile,” said Chief Deputy Shelby Foles of the Clayton County sheriff’s office.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. Tuesday, Shawn Stanley Gilreath and Floyd Wayne Williams Jr. were in the jail’s exercise yard when they “forced their way through a security fence and climbed the perimeter fence,” said Foles.

Gilreath, 28, is white, 6 feet tall, 150 pounds with blue eyes and brown hair. Williams, 25, is black, 5 feet, 9 inches tall, 140 pounds with brown eyes and black hair.

“Both inmates should be considered potentially violent and definitely dangerous,” Foles said.

“Anyone with any information concerning either or both of these individuals, or their accomplice that drove them away, should contact the Clayton County sheriff’s office at 770-477-4478.”

Williams was being held in connection with the October 2001 slayings of two people during a home invasion. Police said Williams forced his way into Alejandro Guittierez’s home in Conley and shot to death the 48-year-old man and a 16-month-old boy, Jose Arias.

Gilreath was charged with the 1996 slaying of 69-year-old Edwin Levy McCullon, who was shot during a robbery at the Bear Paw Army Navy Sales store in Jonesboro.
