NEW YORK (AP) - A man who kidnapped his wife and shot her co-worker at a Queens hospital was apprehended early Monday on a bus in North Carolina, police said.
His wife was also on the bus and was unhurt, police said.
Miguel Carrasquillo, 33, and his wife Nancy Carrasquillo, 42, were found on a southbound Greyhound bus passing through Fayetteville, N.C. at about 4 a.m. Monday, said Detective Kevin Czartoryski, a police spokesman. The bus may have been headed to Miami, police said.
A gun was also recovered at the scene, Czartoryski said, but it was unclear whether it was the weapon used in the shooting Saturday at Elmhurst Hospital Center.
Police said Miguel Carrasquillo entered the hospital around 8 a.m. Saturday, began arguing with his wife and shot a hospital employee who tried to intervene. He dragged his wife away, and the couple were seen at Grand Avenue and Queens Boulevard, entering a subway station, police said.
The wounded employee, whose name was not released, was shot in the neck and was in stable condition Sunday.
The union representing hospital security has called on the state legislature to pass laws allowing some hospital officers to carry guns, saying the kidnapping could have been prevented if guards had been armed.
