ALPHARETTA, Ga. — Police dash cam footage shows a Georgia man accused of drunk driving leading police on a pursuit in a 2018 McLaren 720s that reached 155 miles per hour on Sunday.

Patch.com reports that the pursuit started when Dwayne Sherwood Pope, 46, sped past a marked patrol car “well above” the posted 65 miles per hour speed limit. The Alpharetta officer attempted to pull the car over, which was weaving in and out of traffic and changing lanes recklessly. The officer said the patrol car reached 143 mph, but Pope was still pulling away from it.

The McLaren hit a speed of 155 mph before it came to an abrupt stop as it passed an interchange road. The car went from 150 to 0 mph in a matter of seconds.

Police were able to apprehend the suspect. When police asked why he didn’t pull over, Pope claimed that he didn’t see the officer’s blue lights and didn’t hear the sirens. The officer said in a police report that Pope smelled of alcohol and his eyes were watery, bloodshot and glassy.

Pope faces several charges.
