We owe law enforcement a big thank you for – among countless other deeds – ridding the streets of these most violent offenders this year. Here are some of the worst criminals to be arrested and/or sentenced in 2014.
1. LAPD ‘most wanted’ fugitive found through Facebook
In November, Eduardo Rodriguez, an alleged Toonerville street gang member accused of killing four people, was arrested by LAPD.
2. Mexico’s most wanted drug lord captured
The head of Mexico’s Sinaloa Cartel was captured overnight in February by U.S. and Mexican authorities at a hotel in Mazatlan, Mexico.
3. Burglar who wounded cop, killed K-9 sentenced
Paul Alan Ropp, 21, was sentenced to 30 years in prison after firing a rifle at a Portland police officer and his K-9 partner.
4. Pa. man wanted in trooper ambush captured
Eric Frein eluded police for over a month after ambushing and killing a Pa. State Trooper until U.S. marshals caught up with him in October.
5. Canada cop killer caught after massive manhunt
Justin Bourque was caught after causing the deadliest attack on Canada’s national police force in nearly a decade. 3 mounted police were killed before he was captured.
6. Man on FBI’s Most Wanted list in custody
Jose Manuel Garcia Guevara surrendered to authorities in Mexico in July and was returned to La. where he’s accused of rape and murder.
7. Couple in Craigslist slaying sentenced to life
A newlywed couple out of Pa. whose Craigslist ad lured a stranger to his death were sentenced in September to life in prison without parole.
8. Ariz. man sentenced to 626 years for sex crimes involving children
In April, Edmund Adams was found guilty of 22 counts including sexual conduct with a minor and sexual exploitation of a minor.
9. Man who killed parents and threw party sentenced to life
Tyler Hadley killed his parents at 17 years old then threw a party with their bodies still inside their house. He was ordered to serve two life sentences in March.
10. Ex-USC professor on FBI’s 10 Most Wanted gets 5 years for child sex
Walter Lee Williams, 66, will serve 5 years plus 10 years of supervised release after being caught by Mexican authorities.
