BELLEVUE, Wash. — Prosecutors have dropped charges against a former police officer who was fired from his job and served three months in jail following accusations of assault, violating a protection order and other criminal counts.
The case against former Bellevue police officer John Kivlin was dismissed after a six-month investigation revealed his accuser fabricated evidence, King5News reported.
Kivlin’s accuser, a woman he met on Craigslist, told authorities Kivlin violated a protection order with constant texts and hit her after she tried to break up with him.
Three of the seven charges against Kivlin were dropped in September after investigators searched the woman’s phone and reviewed billing records to find that the woman had given an “inaccurate account,” prosecutors said.
The remaining charges were dropped this week after investigators found the woman had fabricated evidence of Kivlin’s contact with her in August. The woman had previously made false rape allegations in 2009 and 2010, according to prosecutors.
Two other Bellevue police officers have been accused of sexual misconduct with the same woman, including the department chief.
