BOLINGBROOK, Ill. — Bolingbrook Sgt. Willie McRay is facing termination after accusations he has been associating with his convicted felon son.

Jeremy McRay, Sgt. McRay’s son, was arrested on a felony burglary charge in 2015 and had a previous felony conviction, Bolingbrook Patch reported. The Bolingbrook Police Department does not allow police officers to associate with convicted felons.

Bolingbrook Public Safety Director Tom Ross said Sgt. McRay disobeyed general and direct orders, was insubordinate, and failed to uphold the standards expected and delineated for service as a sergeant and police officer.

According to the publication, Ross allegedly told McRay multiple times that he was not allowed to associate with his son and his son could not live with him.

“Although I feel bad for him, and he needs a place to stay, Sgt. McRay is my police sergeant, I can’t have him associating with Jeremy McRay,” Ross said.

McRay allegedly allowed his son to use his home in August 2016 while he was on vacation. Jeremy allegedly threw a party where a woman was sexually assaulted and items were stolen from the home, including his father’s patrolman hat shield and badge. Ross said Sgt. McRay was unwilling to help in the investigation.

The publication reported that Sgt. McRay was also found with a controlled substance in his desk that was prescribed to his son. He said he was keeping it away from Jeremy.

His possession of the medicine is a violation of department policy.

Bolingbrook Patch reported that McRay is a 14-year veteran of the force and has no significant disciplinary history. He is currently suspended without pay.
