PHOENIX — Officials are investigating an armed robbery attempt that a uniformed officer allegedly witnessed, but failed to report or document.

According to ABC 15, the officer was working off-duty at a local gas station on Aug. 11 when a masked suspect armed with a knife entered.

Surveillance video shows the suspect attempt to get behind the counter. The gas station owner yelled to the officer at the back of the store, and as she moved closer, the suspect fled to the door.

The suspect is seen apparently yelling back and forth with the officer before leaving. Multiple sources told the news station that the officer didn’t report the robbery attempt or write up a report. Other officers responded later and wrote up a report.

Sgt. Jonathan Howard said the officer has been reassigned to an administrative position pending an investigation. The city is offering a $1,000 reward for information that would help identify and arrest the suspect. The public should call the Silent Witness line at (480) WITNESS.
