RIO LINDA, Calif. — More than 40 people looted and vandalized a 7-Eleven store after a sideshow, KCRA reported.
“Our deputies got here within about five minutes, and they were all gone, but the damage was immense,” Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Amar Gandhi told KCRA. “They’ve got people breaking windows. They’ve got people potentially with weapons – absolutely no regard for anyone’s safety.”
California’s laws pertaining to non-violent felonies mean that most suspects, if caught, would receive a citation. The suspects that broke the windows may face some jail time.
“Ask the two guys inside while this is all going on how ‘non-violent’ it felt for them,” Gandhi said.
The California Highway Patrol normally handles sideshows in unincorporated areas, according to the report. But a CHP spokesperson said they did not break up the sideshow because officials felt it would be unsafe for troopers if they intervened, according to the report.
No arrests have been made.
