LOUDON COUNTY, Tenn. — The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office is mourning Sgt. Chris Jenkins, who died in the line of duty on Thursday.
According to WATE, Jenkins was struck by a tractor-trailer after he stopped to remove a ladder that had fallen onto the roadway. The truck also hit Jenkins’ patrol car and two other vehicles. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene.
A Texas man is charged with vehicular homicide by recklessness, DUI, and two counts of reckless endangerment, among others, according to a later report from WATE. The driver of a second vehicle was injured.
Jenkins began working with the sheriff’s office in 2002 before he was promoted to patrol in 2003, according to the report.
The investigation is ongoing.
