TORONTO — A police officer has died after trying to stop a stolen snowplow in downtown Toronto.
Police Chief Bill Blair said the plow hit Sgt. Ryan Russell Wednesday while the officer was trying to stop it. Police caught up with the plow, which had crashed into several cars, and the suspect was shot and taken to a hospital.
Police didn't immediately identify the suspect or say what condition he is in.
Tolias Landscaping and Plowing general manager Richard Eros says two operators were clearing a lot in a public housing area after 5 a.m. when they got out of the truck momentarily. Eros said a man wearing no shoes jumped into the truck and took off.
