CLIFTON, N.J. — Police launched an internal investigation after dash cam footage from a civilian surfaced online, NJ.com reported.
The video was posted on YouTube by user “Omar B.” and shows an officer breaking suddenly in front of a vehicle, then jumping out of the vehicle to confront the motorist. The officer told the driver he was following his patrol vehicle too closely. The driver believes the officer’s actions weren’t safe.
“This cop could have hurt me, himself and anyone else who was behind me that couldn’t stop in time,” the user wrote in the video.
Sgt. Robert Bracken told the news site an internal investigation has been launched. The officer involved won’t be named until after the investigation is completed.
“The Clifton Police Department is aware of the incident,” Bracken told NJ Advance Media on Friday. “Internal Affairs matters are confidential, therefore, we will not be commenting on the incident at this time.”
The video on YouTube garnered over 400,000 views.
